Arts Nonprofit Board Support

OnPoint Strategic Consulting
In Summary

Challenge

A regional arts organization had valuable resources but needed an outside perspective to activate them. Its board needed greater focus, clearer assignments, and a more meaningful way to engage with the organization's mission and assets.

Solution

We identified the underused Director's Suite as an existing asset that could become a board and community engagement opportunity. Three board members, a community member, and a senior employee would each host up to six couples during the three-week production run, intentionally inviting influencers, potential donors, government leaders, and other community stakeholders. The principle was to give board members a specific job while using an existing asset to create relationships.

Results

The initiative creates an active board role, introduces influential guests to the organization, and can ultimately turn the underused suite into a premium-use space that supports engagement, fundraising, and revenue.

The Full Story

Often nonprofits already have resources they need; the challenge is figuring out how to marshal them. This regional arts organization had an underused Director's Suite and an attention-wandering board that needed clearer assignments. We worked with leadership to assign three board members, one community member, and a senior-level employee to secure important guests for scheduled nights during a three-week production run. Each would invite and host up to six couples, including influencers, potential donors, government leaders, and others. Guests would experience the space and performances firsthand. Once established, the concept can be transferred to the full board. The principle was simple: turn an existing resource into a structured relationship-building opportunity and give board members a meaningful role. The approach engages the board, builds interest in the nonprofit, and creates a path for an underused asset to become a premium-use space capable of generating additional revenue.
